“We need thousands of more couples serving in the missions of the Church. Every mission president pleads for them. They…can leave the grandchildren. Those little darlings will be just fine, and I promise you will do things for them in the service of the Lord that, worlds without end, you could never do if you stayed home to hover over them. What greater gift could grandparents give their posterity than to say by deed as well as word, “In this family we serve missions!”

On a mission and still they feed the multitudes!!

(Note:This post is made by Miriam Jones, daughter-in-law of Sam and Marilyn)
This is a breakfast quiche/casserole. I made it with lots and lots of zuchinni, yellow squash, onions, red potatoes and tomatoes. I picked all this fabulous produce at the Jones plantation last weekend. Sam planted it all last spring. And now, as they serve a mission in Kosovo, we still reap the benefits of his amazing garden!! Dalynn and Devarie have been trying to keep the massive garden under control...but there is a LOT of garden!!

It made me so happy that even with the parents half way around the world, we were still able to take home a haul of their produce...just like every year. I LIKE things the same every year. I miss Sam and Marlyn, like everyone else does. But their produce makes me smile! I walked around the plantation checking out the massive pumpkins coming on, a billion of them, seeing the apples that are nearly ready, snacking on raspberries, picking corn, and loving it all!! Ellie eats the corn on the cob better than any other veggie on the planet!! Sing praises!! We've eaten a ton and have more to eat, and I froze six bags of the pure gold! I also froze big bags of zuccini and yellow squash for future soups and meals, and we'll eat red potatoes for a few weeks!!

THANK YOU Sam and Marilyn for your fabulous garden!!! And thank you to the Cache-Valley family for keeping up with it!

 Marilyn added....

THE TRUTH OF THE STORY....DALYNN,  DEVARIE AND DARLA   DID THE WHOLE GARDEN....

                                                          BRANCH BIRTHDAYS !!

A walk in the Park...

One eve/afternoon as we were walking in the park, a soccer ball rolled in our way..so Sam kicked it back and it was completely flat....I am sure it is all they had....(I wished I'd have had a pump and needle.)

They all love futboll actually soccer !!

Our park is getting a little dry not sure they ever water !!!

SUNDAY BRUNCH

We had our Gjakova members and the BYUI students......three of the BYUI students spoke and then they did a wonderful  musical number. half in english and half in Albanian.  We only had one of our members(and an investigator). here as it was Bajram...( a Moslom holiday to celebrate the end of Ramadan, which is a28 day fast (which none of them do !).  This is the biggest holiday next to New Years...(no Christmas as it is 80% Moslom)  the celebration lasts for 3 days.....all the relatives go from house to house and eat food and drink together.  Our members families are Moslom so they were with their families,  except one whose family is catholic.

We decided to do Lemon pepper chicken and rice.....Of course there is no lemon pepper seasoning...so we walked down to the treg and bought  a lot  of  lemons, grated them, dried the peel, then  powdered it, then mixed it with pepper.   So..the mushroom soup is powdered..(.there are NO cans of anything in this country.)  the pkgs of powdered mushroom soup are 117 g. and all the languages on the back ,( about 4 of them) are not English nor Albanian..but I can figure out you use 750 ml of something.....to compare this to a can of  undiluted  mushroom soup......Well............ it turned out good..the rice was mucky...but the not brownies were GREAT !!!!!!!We had a great time...

Oh, yes..we had Cabbage salad and rolls too......

GJAKOVA

We drive over once or twice a week with two of the elders to teach...

There is always a warm and welcoming spirit there.

There are lots of carts/wagons  pulled by lawn mowers..many by rototillers and horses..they are usually full of fruits and vegetables being brought in from the villages

Pretty tricky getting pictures from a car window !!!

This is our  'group' in Gjakova..they come to Pristina to church as often as they can..sometimes the buses don't run.  They most often hold their own meetings.

Burim is the group Leader.and the 2nd councilor in the Branch presidency..Liz will fly home to Arizona in  a couple of weeks.  Our members there are so strong there!!!

On the road to Macedonia. After their 6 hour bus ride from Tirana to Pristina, we drove the Macedonia Elders back to Skopje.

This  is Serbian or Macedonia or both ???   (It is not Albanian!)

A SIGN LIKE THIS IS POSTED AS YOU ENTER A CITY OR VILLAGE

ALWAYS SPELLED TWICE  (I THINK ONE IS SERBIAN)

THIS IS THE SIGN AS YOU  LEAVE !!

This sign is by every bridge in Kosovo !!

(Weight limit for trucks and tanks.)

An Evening walk in Pristina

National Library and University of Kosovo.

Michelle &  Isni.

We met this couple outside the Library.  They are here on a holiday.  He is from Kosovo, but fled 13 years ago when the war was so bad.  He went to London, where he met Michelle in a pub and this was his first time back in 13 years.  He brought her to meet his family.  She is from Cambridge, London, England.. She seemed fascinated with his home in a small village 45 minutes north of Pristina, where they have a milk cow, chickens and raise everything  in the Garden.  She said they all seemed to be so happy with so little.   She doesn't speak Albanian and his family doesn't speak English..but they get along very well with his translating.  We told them there were Missionaries in England too, and they could find them on LDS.org.  We had a very nice visit ! !

We will go back again when it is open !!!
